Description

Sorbaria sorbifolia (L.) A. Braun (false-spirea), shrub that is erect rather coarse multi-stemmed with foliage similar to European Mountainash spreading rapidly by suckers forming colonies 5-10' tall and wide, young stems are usually green or pink often somewhat downy gray-brown when old and glabrous, leaves are alternate innately compound 8-12" long, leaflets are 2-4" long by 0.5-1.0" wide lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate long acuminate double and sharply serrate usually glabrous or nearly so beneath deep green above subsessile, flowers are perfect white 1/3" across late June into July borne in large terminal panicles fleecy 4-10" long to 6" wide very showy, fruits are dehiscent follicles
