Letter from Clarence E. Godshalk to Joy Morton. Godshalk and Mr. Teuscher never agreed on the purpose and organization of Morton Arboretum. If Mr. Teuscher leaves and I am given responsibility, I am outlining here the ideas I would like to carry out. Purpose: To cultivate in the minds of the general public a love for trees and educate them in the use of woody plants in reforestation. Means of Accomplishing this: 1) Enlarge the collection 2) Search for new trees 3) Properly label all trees. 4) Propagate for our future plantings. 5) Rearrange the office: card catalog, herbarium, picture catalog, sample of all woods. 6) Publish Bulletins 7) Be efficient and frugal 8) Study of birds and native wildflowers. VanGemert could move to Teuscher's house, freeing Van Gemert's house for a warmer winter office. He gives a job description for a graduate botanist to be hired.
