Aralia elata (Miq.) Seem. (Japanese angelica tree), view of a small group of single trunk Aralia elata, in a sunny open area at forest edge. The tree trunks are very small in diameter, and the trees are short. A sparsely flowered inflorescence crowns one of the small trees. A close up view  shows the prickles and spines running up and down the tree trunk.
