Argyroxiphium sandwicense subsp. macrocephalum (east Maui silversword), This photo is a moonscape of red earth and rocks, with two large globes of silversword highlighted in the foreground. One plant is a silvery orb with spike-like succulent leaves. The other plant has bloomed. The top of the blooming plant has a  flattened top from which has emerged an enormous flower scape, hosting a raceme of 50-600 red to maroon flower heads.
