Dodecatheon meadia, flowers. Dodecatheon meadia (shooting star, prairie shooting star, Eastern shooting star, prairie pointers, rooster heads, American cowslip, pride of Ohio)  has white, pink or purple dangling flowers. The five upward facing, reflexed petals (petals appear to bend backwards), yellow stamens, and greenish-purple style are fused at the base and converge into a downward facing point.  The fused base has rings of white, yellow, and maroon.
