Carya cordiformis (Wang.) K. Koch (bitternut hickory), image shows a typical branch, leaves are alternate pinnately compound 6-10" (up to 15") long composed of 7 (sometimes 5 or 9) leaflets each being 3-6" long by 0.75-2.5" wide ovate to lanceolate acuminate sharply serrate light green and glabrous above pubescent below on midrib and veins, petiole and rachis are pubescent
