Tilia americana L. (American basswood), flowers are perfect pale yellow 1/2" wide fragrant borne in 5-10 (15) flowered cymes, cymes are 2-3" wide and pendulous mid-late June, bracts are spatulate 3-4" long, leaves are alternate simple broad-ovate 4-8" long by almost as wide abruptly acuminate cordate to truncate at base coarsely serrate with long-pointed teeth lustrous dark green and glabrous above light green beneath 3-5 principal veins aring at base with tufts of hair in the axils of the lateral veins wanting at base, petiole is 1-3" long glabrous
