Anticlea elegans, formerly Zigadenus elegans (Mountain Deathcamas), fen wildflower, poisonous, single-stemmed plant to 2' tall with closely clustered alternate grass-like leaves (15" long by 1/4" wide, or less) near the base, several alternate bract-like leaves are usually scattered along the stem, flowers grow in a branched cluster along the upper part of the stem, at the base of each branch is a small pointed often purplish bract, individual flowers are white to pale greenish 3/4" wide and has 6 broad-based rounded petal-like segments with pointed and often inrolled tips, stamens are 6 erect surrounding an ovary with 3 short styles, each petal-like segment is greenish to bronze or purplish on the outside and there is a greenish 2-lobed gland at the base on the inside, flowers have a foul scent
