Syringa villosa Vahl. (late lilac), flowers are white not as fragrant as S. vulgaris blooming mid to late May possibly into early June borne in dense pyramidal 4-8" long panicles, forms a true terminal bud and 3 panicles often occur at the end of the shoot, leaves are opposite simple broad-elliptic to oblong 2-7" long by 1-2.5" wide entire acute at ends dull dark green above glaucescent beneath and usually pubescent near the midrib rarely glabrous veins impressed creating a pleated appearance, petiole is 0.25-1.25" long
