Pinus sylvestris L. (Scots pine), leaves are in pairs persisting about 2-4 years variable in length twisted stiff 1-3" long short-pointed margins minutely toothed glaucous with many well-defined lines of stomata on the outer side blue-green in color , leaf sheaths 1/4-3/8" long persistent, cones are mostly solitary to 2-3 together short-stalked ovoid conic 1.5-3"  long gray or dull brown falling at maturity with umbo small and obtuse
