Phlox divaricata L. (woodland phlox), woodland wildflower, erect perennial to 20" tall with spreading basal shoots, leaves are well-separated pairs ovate-lanceolate to oblong 1.2-2.0" long broadest below the middle and acute tipped, inflorescence is a loose branched cyme with flowers on distinct pedicels, flowers are tubular with 5 spreading lobes and are 0.8-1.2" wide pale blue to red-purple to white, corolla tube is glabrous and the shortest stamen is longer than the style but they are not visible at the opening of the corolla tube
