Dodecatheon meadia L. (shooting star), wildflower, smooth perennial with leafy basal rosette, erect scapes 6-20" tall and a terminal umbel of handsome nodding flowers on erect or ascending stalks, leaves are mostly oblong to oblanceolate 8" long and usually tinged with red at the base, corollas are 5-lobed narrow white to lilac and bent sharply back, stamens (5) are united and converge appearing cone-like
