Anemone cylindrica Gray (thimbleweed), prairie wildflower, hairy-stemmed plants about 2' tall (even taller), leaves are both basal and one or more whorled on the flowering stems, leaves (main) are stalked and deeply divided typically into 5 main segments toothed and lobed each tapering to a wedge-shaped base, there are usually several tall flower stalks above the main whorl of leaves with a single flower at the top of each, flowers have about 5 white petal-like sepals each about 1/2" long, fruits develop on a dense eponymous cylinder up to 1.5" tall in the flower center
