Amelanchier arborea (Michx. f.) Fern. (downy serviceberry), leaves are alternate simple generally obovate sometimes ovate or elliptic or oblong 1-3" long by 0.5-1.75" wide acute or acuminate usually cordate at base sharply serrate nearly or quite at the base when young densely tomentose beneath less so above tomentum usually partly persistent when unfolding grayish pubescent medium to dark green at maturity, petiole is 0.37-1.25" long, fall color can vary from yellow to apricot-orange to dull deep dusty red
