Acer japonicum Thunb. (fullmoon maple) leaves are opposite simple roundish 3-6" across 7- to 11-lobed, lobes are ovate to lanceolate long with whitish hairs on veins and in their axils, petioles are -pointed sharply and irregularly toothed sinuses often shallow cordate rich green tuft of whitish pubescence at end of downy leaf stalk on upper side underside with whitish hairs on veins and in their axils, petiole is 1.0-1.5" long pubescent when young, fall color is rich yellow and crimson
