Acer palmatum Thunb. (Japanese maple), leaves are opposite simple 2-5" long and wide deeply 5- 7- 9-lobed with lobes being lance-ovate to lance-oblong in shape acuminate subcordate doubly serrate glabrous and bright green beneath, color varies depending on cultivar but generally dark green on species, petiole is 0.75-2" long glabrous, fall color is yellow or bronze or orange or purple or bright red
