Dirca palustris L. (leatherwood), leaves are alternate simple elliptic to obovate 1-3" long about half as wide obtuse cuneate entire light green above glaucescent beneath and pubescent when young, petiole about 1/8", leaf color is light green to yellow-green, one of the first shrubs to leaf out in spring
