Trillium catesbaei Elliott (bashful wakerobin), woodland wildflower, erect perennial 6-16" tall that arises from a stout rhizome with the stem often purple-tinged at the node, leaves (3) are green whorled ovate to widely elliptic 2.5-6" long tapering at the base to a short stalk, flower is borne on a stalk 0.5-2.5" long and usually nods beneath the leaves, petals are white or pinkish turning roseate with age elliptic recurved often with a wavy margin 1.4-2.2" long, anthers are curved and somewhat twisted and have yellow pollen, ovary is white, blooming in April to May, somewhat rare
