Trillium vaseyi Harbison (sweet wakerobin), rare woodland wildflower, erect perennial to 2' tall, leaves (3) are green whorled broadly elliptic tapering at the base to a short stalk, flower is large and has a funereal somewhat pungent rose-like fragrance and is borne on a long stalk that nods beneath the leaves, petals are maroon veiny sometimes overlapping at the base and usually strongly recurved, stamens have yellow to maroon anthers and are much longer than the small purple-black ovary
