Verbena hastata L. (blue vervain), woodland wildflower, slender plant to 6' tall with grooved angular stems and opposite leaves, leaves are short-stalked and up to 7" long by 2"wide with pointed tips and coarsely toothed edges, main leaves sometimes have 2 small toothed lobes near their bases, many upright spikes of small bluish flowers occur in an open cluster at the top of the plant, flowers are 3/16" wide and have tiny 5-toothed hairy calyxes and lobed bluish purple corollas
