Abstract
Aichi Biodiversity Target 12 represents a significant and positive statement about the value placed by CBD Parties, and indeed society as whole, on species conservation. This paper highlights that when conservation action is undertaken, on the whole, it is successful. However more action is needed at all scales to achieve the Target. There are excellent examples of progress towards the target at national and global scales in terms of demonstrating impact action resulting in species recovery. These case studies help generate knowledge and inform decision-making on the strategic approaches that can fully deliver Target 12.
