The Arboretum lost its photographer John Kohout and his wife Kitty in an unfortunate car accident and was collecting funds for a memorial. Peter J. Van Der Linden joined the staff as Curator of the Woods. Charles Lewis, Horticulturalist and Collection Group Administrator, addressed The American Association of Science. The Nature Artists' Guild of The Morton Arboretum was started to encourage natural history art.
