Description:Populus angustifolia James (narrow-leaved cottonwood), small, deciduous tree growing 45-60' with a rather narrow crown and slender twigs, bark is less deeply furrowed than the broad-leaved cottonwoods, leaves are yellow-green lanceolate with scalloped margin willow-like, crown is narrow conical form of slender upright branches and with resinous balsam-scented buds, tree is slim in profile and can grow in tightly packed clusters, produces catkins in the early spring, fruits are capsules that are fluffy and white, hence the common name of cottonwood

Description:Hibiscus ‘Kopper King’ (Kopper King hibiscus), rose mallow hybrid that is a cross between H. moscheutos and H. coccineus, compact vigorous sturdy rounded somewhat shrubby woody-based 3-4' tall, foliage is copper-red, flowers are dinner plate-sized 5-petaled hollyhock-like flowers 10-12" diameter which are among the largest flowers produced by any perennial in this area, flowers are light pink with red veining and a bright red central eye, each flower has a prominent and showy pale yellow tubular central staminal column

Aiton (yellow pond-lily), aquatic wildflower, stalked leaves that mostly float on the water although the leaves can also be totally submerged or emerge above the water, leaves in bud are curled like a scroll, leaves are broad oval 10" long by 7" wide with U-shaped notches where the stalk is attached, leaf stalks are round or oval, flowers grow to about 2" wide and are deep yellow growing above the water on individual stalks usually having 6 upright rounded sepals marked with combinations of red and green and yellow along with many small yellow petals and numerous flattened yellow stamens surrounding a yellowish disk-like stigma which are marked with lines like the spokes on a wheel

(swamp rose mallow), perennial swamp wildflower, vigorous sturdy rounded, somewhat shrubby hairy-stemmed woody-based 3-7’ tall and to 2-4’ wide, native to wet spots (marshes, swamps, floodplains, river banks, moist meadows, and moist woods), flowers are showy dinner plate-sized hollyhock-like 4-6” diameter having five overlapping white or creamy white or pink petals, each flower has a prominent and showy central staminal column of white to pale yellow anthers surrounding an even longer style, leaves are alternate broad-ovate to lanceolate 3-8” long with toothed margins green above and white-hairy beneath lobeless or have 3-5 shallow lobes
