Description:Mirabilis nyctaginea (Michx.) MacMill. (heartleaf four o'clock) weedy prairie wildflower, plants with branching angular stems 2-4' tall, leaves are in widely spaced pairs stalked opposite broad triangular 4" long with pointed tips and usually heart-shaped bases, stem is usually slightly swollen where leaves attach, flowers are on hairy stalks in open branched clusters near the stem tops, at the end of each flower stalk is a broadly 5-lobed green to purplish calyx-like bract surrounding 2-5 flowers, each flower is less than 1/2" wide with no petals and a pink 5-lobed corolla-like calyx and 3-5 protruding yellow-tipped stamens, flowers open in late afternoon
