Andrew Hipp with AP Biology students at Downers Grove North High School (3.96771)
Type: Photographic image
Description:Conserving biodiversity depends on continued training of young scientists. The Herbarium and Systematics Laboratory have collaborated with Advanced Placement Biology classes at a local high school, Downers Grove North, since 2013, training students in all aspects of plant biodiversity science. In this project, students were generating morphological data on sedges as part of the Global Carex Group collaboration.
The Global Carex Group at The Morton Arboretum in 2017 (3.96770)
Date: January 27 2017Creator: Hipp, Andrew
Type: Photographic image
Description:The nearly 2000 species of sedge in the genus Carex are distributed around the globe; we can only understand the genus by collaborating globally. Researchers at The Arboretum led the formation of The Global Carex Group. This photo from their last meeting in 2017 features some of the more than 30 members from 10 countries at the Arboretum, considering a revised classification for the genus.
