Date: November 14 1930Creator: Kammerer, E. Lowell
Type: Document
Description:Letter from E. L. Kammerer to Mrs. Wheeler H. Peckham answering her request for information on The Morton Arboretum's Iris Test Garden. Mr. Kammerer writes that the original site of the test garden had to be abandoned two years prior due to poor drainage, and the plants were moved to the nursery before being replanted that fall. He writes that the new test garden contains 800 varieties laid out within the hybrid lilac collection and arranged alphabetically and by color. He notes that they lack new and better varieties, and have received the plants she had sent as well as plants from Mrs. Willard C. Brinton in New York City and the New York Botanic Garden, but most were duplicates which were already in the collection.
