1935/08/27: E. L. Kammerer to Norma Bryan (3.109108)
Date: August 27 1935Creator: Bryan, Norma A.
Type: Document
Description:Letter from E. L. Kammerer to Norma Bryan. He replies to her questions. 1) The Central Great Plains Field Station and the USDA Experimental Station in Cheyenne are the same. H. C. Hildreth is the Superintendent. In general he suggests that correspondence be addressed to the Superintendent, even if that person is unknown. 2) A list of the seed exchange subscribers will be sent to her. Directors of the Botanical Gardens on the list are very likely potential subscribers. 3) He is in favor of placing "Garden Glories" on the free list; it should bring in benefits in exchange. 4) Responding to a suggestion that the topics in the Bulletin be geared more to home gardeners, he asks her to send out a brief survey asking subscribers what topics are of interest to them. He sees his potential audience to include amateur gardeners, foresters, landscape architects, nurserymen, conifer enthusiasts, etc. 4) Some objections to the inclusion of annual growth reports on forestry plots and synopses of various plant groups. In deference to Mr. Morton's aims for the Arboretum, these will continue to be included. He got a commendation from a nurseryman on the two recent issues on Viburnums. 5) He and Clarence Godshalk will be making some changes to future issues, including having photographs. 6) They are all getting settled in the new building. He will be available on Sunday to give her a tour.
