Date: January 16 1952Creator: Godshalk, Clarence E.
Type: Document
Description:Letter from C. E. Godshalk to Sterling Morton stating that Mr. Eickhorst made Morton's labels and is mailing them to him. Since the Arboretum is enjoying exceptionally mild weather, Mr. Nordine will ship Morton's Metasequoia to him. He received Morton's check for $1.00 for the bulletin subscription for Mr. Landon. In 1951, they had 1091 paid subscriptions. He heard that California is having an exceptional amount of rainfall. The snow in Illinois is melting rapidly, but not causing any floods. Due to the mild weather, the men are working in the woods. Snow and freezing weather are forecast in February, so that should finish the tree moving.

1952/05/07: C. E. Godshalk to Sterling Morton (3.84461)
Date: May 7 1952Creator: Godshalk, Clarence E.
Type: Document
Description:Letter from C. E. Godshalk to Sterling Morton regarding Henrietta Riedy's letter to Morton about the high school issue in Lisle. Godshalk spoke to Walter Eickhorst of the Arboretum's staff about the issue since he is on the school board. Lisle students would still go to Downers Grove and Naperville high schools as they do now, but these school districts would have the power to assess tax on the portions of Lisle annexed to their school districts. Godshalk and Eickhorst don't believe there is enough valuation in Lisle to maintain their own high school. He is amused that Henrietta Riedy should write Morton since the Riedys have blocked most efforts to improve Lisle. He enclosed a Public Service Company Bulletin which deals with the Arboretum.

1954/08/26: C. E. Godshalk to Sterling Morton (3.84475)
Date: August 26 1954Creator: Godshalk, Clarence E.
Type: Document
Description:Letter from C. E. Godshalk to Sterling Morton updating him on events at the Arboretum. Mrs. Zurcher has approved the plans for the window at Thornhill and the plaques, describing them to Morton. The housing is at a standstill. They applied the grub control at the correct time. He also plans to treat for weeds. They are patching the roads, and he hopes to get approval from Ed on the method of handling their fencing program along the new land. They will not be attending the Shade Tree Conference in Atlantic City this year. Kammerer and Eickhorst ate taking the station wagon and going on a collecting and study trip out east. Mrs. Watts wants to go to a conservation meeting at Louis Bromfield's place. These trips should about use up their travel fund for the year. He discusses a possible treatment plan for fire blight and the sick elms. He proposes a fix for the porch roof of his house.

1946/02/05: C. E. Godshalk to Jean Cudahy (3.85814)
Date: February 5 1946Creator: Godshalk, Clarence E.
Type: Document
Description:Letter from C. E. Godshalk to Jean Cudahy saying Monday night's class on poultry was well-attended. Mr. Hoyt answered questions on commercial chicken and turkey raising. Godshalk answered the questions on having a small family flock and ducks. Mrs. Westover answered the questions on guinea hens and geese, and Mr. Geisler answered questions on pigeons. Next week, the topic will be soils, fertilizers, etc. He is enclosing the corrected reports for October, November, and December. It seems to him that they are now complete and easy to understand. He has been unable to get Mr. Steinbrecher to come to the Arboretum and lay out the Arboretum in hundred foot sections. Godshalk was able to purchase a surveying instrument through the War Assets Corporation, so they can do the work themselves. The Arboretum's 1938 green Ford is no longer safe. Godshalk would like to have Walter, Lowell, Mr. Nordine, Mrs. Watts, and Gust use Goshalk's car, and he would purchase a new one for himself. He would like Mrs. Cudahy's assurance that if the car purchase puts him over budget, the difference will be covered from her chairman's fund. Mrs. Watts started a class for boy scouts, and over 50 attended. Mr. Seymour Levy, who bands birds at the Arboretum, told Godshalk that a chickadee banded at the Arboretum was trapped in Blue Island, Illinois. Things are going well, and the weather is mild. The hog sale is tomorrow; he will send Mr. Cudahy a marked catalog.
