Description:Letter from C. E. Godshalk to Sterling Morton apologizing for the delay in answering his letter. He was getting Mr. Tyznik started and preparing for the board meeting. He is happy that Mrs. Zurcher and Dan Peterkin going to be vice-chairmen. Mrs. Zurcher suggested that the Arboretum have a Christmas party for employees, paid for by the Chairman’s fund. It was a huge success and staff members and their wives asked Godshalk to thank Morton and the rest of the trustees for the party. She also suggested the Arboretum have a party for the trustees and the employees to become better acquainted. She would like to create a more comprehensive information bulletin. Mr. King was out, and they talked over Arboretum activities and the steer feeding program; trustees are taking a more active role than in the past. He will speak to Mrs. Watts and Mr. Kammerer to see if they can offer suggestions on how Mr. Hamill as a trustee could contribute to the Arboretum. He then talked about several types of equipment. He has Mr. Tyznik working on a plan for the area south of the Administration Building. They are making a very detailed outline of all the phases of the research program.

Mrs. Zurcher has approved the plans for the window at Thornhill and the plaques, describing them to Morton. The housing is at a standstill. They applied the grub control at the correct time. He also plans to treat for weeds. They are patching the roads, and he hopes to get approval from Ed on the method of handling their fencing program along the new land. They will not be attending the Shade Tree Conference in Atlantic City this year. Kammerer and Eickhorst ate taking the station wagon and going on a collecting and study trip out east. Mrs. Watts wants to go to a conservation meeting at Louis Bromfield's place. These trips should about use up their travel fund for the year. He discusses a possible treatment plan for fire blight and the sick elms. He proposes a fix for the porch roof of his house.

Godshalk plans to assist nature on that land keeping it a beautiful place to walk on created paths, giving visitors the effect of a natural undisturbed woodland. Areas will be marked off for Mrs. Watts to study. The plan for Morton's place seems to fit the site perfectly. Godshalk would like to see it someday. The foundations are being poured for the greenhouse and the South Farm buildings. The flame photometer arrived. He is beginning to get things ready for the upcoming trustees meeting.

He lists Sharpless' many qualifications and the recommendations Godshalk has received from many different people. Sharpless is willing to use his accumulated leave for a trial at the Arboretum. Godshalk plans to hire a recent high school graduate to be trained in climbing by Sharpless while Sharpless performs many other duties.
