Aiton (yellow pond-lily), aquatic wildflower, stalked leaves that mostly float on the water although the leaves can also be totally submerged or emerge above the water, leaves in bud are curled like a scroll, leaves are broad oval 10" long by 7" wide with U-shaped notches where the stalk is attached, leaf stalks are round or oval, flowers grow to about 2" wide and are deep yellow growing above the water on individual stalks usually having 6 upright rounded sepals marked with combinations of red and green and yellow along with many small yellow petals and numerous flattened yellow stamens surrounding a yellowish disk-like stigma which are marked with lines like the spokes on a wheel
