The Great Lakes Forest Soils Conference, organized by Patrick Kelsey, Arboretum Research Soil Scientist, and Richard Hootman, Research Soil Specialist, took place with topics emphasizing soil development in undisturbed areas and disturbed or urbanized areas of the Arboretum problems associated with the growth of woody plants on "urban" soils; and the management of soils and vegetation in areas disturbed by construction.
