Description:Maples are known for change, especially when they are transformed by showy fall colors. But maples are also dealing with another type of change--climate change--that threatens their continued survival and success in the midwestern United States. The laser-cut corten steel letters of the CHANGE bench, located in the maple (Acer) collection at The Morton Arboretum, change from positive to negative from left to right.

Description:The graceful, arching limbs and serrated leaf edge of the elm inspired the design of the GRACEFUL bench, located in the elm (Ulmus) collection at The Morton Arboretum. The bench’s corten base with arching supports mimic the elm's branch structure, while the wood back and seat--cut at varying lengths and assembled at right angles--evoke a folded leaf with a serrated edge.

The sup't. Mr. Senn was assigned to move this tree and failed. Mr. Morton gave Clarence Godshalk a chance to do it. The American elm in the foreground was moved to this location on the south side of Lake Marmo in the spring of 1922 with a team of horses hitched to a stone boat. It was 6-8" in diameter. As a result of this Mr. Godshalk was made sup't. Picture taken before Dutch Elm Disease go it.
