Chromosome Numbers of New Ulmus (elm) Taxa Introduced from China (3.100289)
Date: March 21 – June 20 1997Type: Article
Description:In recent years, a number of "new" elm taxa have been introduced into the United States from China. Experimentation on resistance of these taxa to Resistance of several other taxa to insects and diseases is needed. Preliminary to such experimentation, it is desirable to know the chromosome numbers of these taxa. If any of these new Chinese introductions proved to be tetraploid, they might be more crossable with American elm. Therefore, chromosome counts were made on all of these taxa, none of which have been reported previously.

Feeding Preference of Adult Japanese Beetles (Coleoptera:Scarabaeidae) for Asian Elm Species and Their Hybrids (3.100291)
Date: April 1999Creator: Miller, Fredric D.
Type: Article
Description:The objective of the described study was to conduct an initial screening of Asian elms and their hybrids for adult Japanese beetle feeding preference in the laboratory and in the field. The findings will contribute to selection and future potential of these elms, and provide a clearer direction for an ongoing comprehensive elm breeding program for Dutch elm disease, elm leaf beetle, and elm leaf miner resistance.
